"You are just a groundsman": That is the comment that was recently directed @surreycricket Head Groundsman, Lee Fortis.
The unsung hero quote about groundstaff should not be underestimated. Groundstaff are protective of the surfaces they maintain, like everyone in all industries they take pride in the work that they have completed; without the hard work from grounds teams all over the UK we would not have sports that we all love.
Lee is one of the most experienced individuals within the turfcare industry. That experience therefore comes with a vast amount of knowledge; it should also come with equal amount of respect.
It is clear that the stereotype of "just a groundsman" is still prominenet. Education about the turfcare industry is still very much needed within the wider sporting world.
We hope that the comments made will not filter down and encourage others to act in the same way. It is important to remember that all jobs should be treated with the same level of respect.

No designated bunker rakers this week is such a disappointment. I know the caddies love them, as well as the players. Very odd decision by the @TheOpen not to have them. @RandA
Evening Prep began tonight as we prepare towards Monday, Practice day tomorrow, it’s been a hard work but everything we have control of we are happy with #golf#greenkeeping#teamwork
Glorious Morning as the team preps for @RandA Open Regional Qualifying just around the corner, happy with everything irrigated and just trying to keep the fairways going the best we can #golf#greenkeeping
