The Siccar Point unconformity this morning, such a peaceful place to contemplate deep time. The textbook view usually only shows a small part of the rocky platform, a varying unconformity surface reflecting erosion of the underlying rock before deposition of the upper layers.
Concretions in Carboniferous sandstone at Cocklawburn beach, Northumberland. Looks reminiscent of the cup-and-ring carvings in the Fell Sandstone inland, however this is a natural phenomena.
This week the GeoBus Without Borders team were in Keetmanshoop, Namibia, with our colleagues from @GRINDicdp and Geological Survey of Namibia to deliver workshops for teachers, @unam_na students and students from J A Nel, PK de Villiers & Keetmanshoop Senior Secondary Schools.
@RobGMacfarlane Below from Lothian Geology, 1986, "no picnics to be taken, or picnic haversacks carried ...". Fortunately in Scotland all such nonsense was swept away by the Land Reform Act in 2003, so that it seems almost unbelievable now. Hard won rights that should not be forgotten.
