In a statement, the ESB confirmed that it has received government sanction to increase its CEO’s annual salary to €410,000. This represents 29% increase of €91,917 on Paddy Hayes’s salary of €318,083 from last year.
A spokesman for the ESB stated that permission to increase the salary “reflects the scale, scope and complexity of ESB’s operations”.
Last year, they generated a pre-tax profit of €749.7 million on revenues of €6.73 billion, as employee numbers increased to 9,968.
Jack Chambers, the Public Expenditure and Reform Minister, sanctioned the pay increase on July 6. This followed a recommendation by Energy Minister Darragh O’Brien.
The ESB is 95% State owned and yet the Irish people are being crippled by extortionate electricity bills.
How long are TDs and other public representatives going to remain silent?
I'll have to try stop myself endlessly tweeting this over the next three months. But simply increasing tax bands in line with inflation, which is what is proposed, is not a tax cut and is done automatically every year in many European countries.
After a system margin warning EirGrid has fired up the Temporary Emergency Generation units. Wind has collapsed to ~270MW against ~5,200MW of demand, solar is dropping off fast, and interconnector imports are tightening. So we're leaning on expensive emergency peakers to fill the gap. @EirGrid
My follow up essay: Ireland's Failure Premium. To answer the question a lot of people have asked me: So where the hell does all of our money go, if it's not into creating infrastructure and a high living standard?!
[The short answer is: someone's pockets. Just not yours...]
Day 5, last ball of the test match, New Zealand need one run to win the match, Sri Lanka needed to bowl a dot ball to tie the game. What a drama. #NZVSL https://t.co/TqPfp2jrPN
The Govt are giving half a billion euros to apartment developers for schemes that are under construction & in many cases have buyers!
This is not activation. It is sheer stupidity.
This money could have been used to deliver genuinely affordable homes for working people!
Today we hear 1 in 5 children are living in poverty
And now Energia is set to increase electricity prices by up to 12.1%
They made €154 million in profit last year
This isn't inflation it's Gougflation-
Price & profit gouging
The Government must stop sitting on its hands
What if Arthur’s Quay became a home for sustainable waterfront living?
Studio Saol is proud to call Limerick City home. When the local council opened a public dialogue around the planning proposals for Arthur’s Quay, we felt compelled — as did many others — to contribute our perspective for the future of the site.
We found that the proposed options lacked the ambition, foresight, and social purpose needed to create a truly liveable and sustainable urban space for Limerick City’s communities.
With this in mind, we built upon what we viewed as the only viable option, incorporating additional considerations that we believe will help realise the full potential of this important city centre redevelopment project.
