this is only anecdotal, but a lawyer-friend of mine who'd worked closely with the most famous divorce lawyer in NYC (who'd mainly represented the wives of wealthy/famous men in divorce cases) said that she was astonished at the number of men who initiated divorce proceedings when their wives became ill, especially with cancer. the men just could not take it- giving other reasons of course.
