Over the past four years, as a member of NAFO, I have followed every high and low of Ukraine’s struggle. Like many of you, I joined for a reason.

For most people, that reason is simple: a sense of right and wrong. They saw an unprovoked injustice committed against Ukraine and refused to look away.

For me, it is also deeply personal.

My wife is a Ukrainian Jew, and I have family in Ukraine. This is not an abstract geopolitical debate for me. It is about people I love.

From the beginning, one of NAFO’s central missions has been to challenge misinformation surrounding this war. That has never been an easy task. There is extensive reporting documenting organised online influence campaigns linked to the Russian state and its supporters, designed to distort reality and undermine support for Ukraine.

I have also seen propaganda firsthand. In Kherson in 2022, I witnessed people being transported in to create the appearance of grateful crowds welcoming Russian forces. Experiences like that leave a lasting impression.

Getting the truth into the public sphere has never been straightforward. My first and largest account on X was permanently suspended after I criticised Ramzan Kadyrov. Overnight, I lost thousands of followers and have never been able to rebuild that audience. Even today, many of my posts supporting Ukraine reach only a fraction of the people they once did.

The information battle has been just as important as the military one.

It is also no secret that influential figures have viewed the war through very different lenses. Elon Musk, for example, publicly expressed fears that continued escalation between Russia and the West could increase the risk of nuclear conflict, and many supporters of Ukraine disagreed strongly with some of the positions he advocated because they believed they came at Ukraine’s expense.

But this is 2026, and I have noticed something important.

The conversation has changed.

Far fewer people accept Russian narratives without question than they did in the early years of the invasion. Many who were once sceptical have reconsidered their views. Even some public commentators who previously took very different positions, such as Laura Loomer, have shifted their stance.

That change did not happen by accident.

It happened because thousands of ordinary people refused to give up. They checked facts, challenged misinformation, amplified credible reporting, and kept Ukraine in the public eye even when the world became distracted.

That is what NAFO has been about.

So, to everyone who has played a part—whether you have hundreds of followers or hundreds of thousands—thank you.

Thank you to people such as @DevanaUkraine, @maria_drutska, @JayinKyiv, and the many others who have dedicated countless hours to this effort.

History is shaped not only by soldiers and politicians, but also by ordinary people who refuse to let lies become the accepted version of events.
