WTF
AI companies are purchasing large quantities of used and rare books. Scanning their contents to train models. Then turning the originals to pulp.
The sum of human thought, digitized and shredded.
Every book that gets scanned disappears from the physical world permanently. The knowledge survives only as training data inside a system no one can hold, browse, or resell.
What used to sit on a shelf for centuries now exists as weights in a model that might get deprecated next quarter.
They say books won’t change the world. Tell that to every colonizer who burned them. To every enslaved person who was punished for reading. Literacy is resistance. Literacy is liberation. The library is a battlefield.
Ian Fleming’s daily routine while staying at Goldeneye, his home in Jamaica.
Each year, Ian Fleming followed a disciplined routine during his stays at GoldenEye, his home on Jamaica’s north coast, where he wrote all 14 James Bond books between 1952 and 1964.
Spending roughly two months there at a time, Fleming completed first drafts at an impressive pace, drawing inspiration from Jamaica’s beaches, coral reefs, and tropical scenery. Despite his productive schedule, he was also a heavy smoker and drinker, reportedly consuming up to 70 cigarettes a day along with several alcoholic drinks daily. After suffering multiple heart attacks, Fleming died of heart disease in 1964 at the age of 56.
Imagine the amount of propaganda it took to convince millions of people that healthcare, food assistance, social programs, clean water, clean air, good wages, housing, equal rights, diversity and a healthy planet for all people was somehow a threat to America and to Christianity.
