In 1933 Belgian administrators in Rwanda measured people's noses and counted their cattle. Sixty-one years later, those measurements decided who lived.

Hutu and Tutsi existed before the Belgians. They were fluid — categories tied to occupation, cattle, marriage and status. People moved between them.

The Belgian colonial administration decided that would not do. Working from the so-called Hamitic hypothesis — the fiction that a lighter-skinned, taller people had come from the north and were naturally suited to rule, they set out to make the categories fixed and measurable.

They recorded height. They recorded nose width. They took skull measurements. And they counted cattle: roughly ten head or more and you were classified Tutsi.

Then in 1933 they issued identity cards stamping the classification on every person in the territory. What had been fluid became inherited and permanent. Tutsi were placed in administrative posts. Hutu were placed under them.

Belgium left in 1962. The identity cards stayed.

In 1994, at roadblocks across Rwanda, men asked for those cards. The card decided.

A European bureaucrat with a measuring tape and a preference for a certain shape of nose set a category that killed roughly eight hundred thousand people in a hundred days.

🇺🇳🇸🇩 In a three-hour UN Security Council briefing on Sudan, convened to weigh expanding the arms embargo across the entire country, not a single speaker other than the representative from Sudan itself named the United Arab Emirates as the principal party arming the genocidal Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Speaker after speaker condemned "external actors" fueling the war, then declined to say who:

◽️ Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, said "the sophisticated weapons used continues to point to ongoing external support to both parties."

◽️ Dr. Eva Awad, health protection and peacebuilding adviser, cited "the role of multiple actors in supplying weapons, mercenaries, other forms of military assistance, and diplomatic cover to the RSF on the one hand, and military, logistical, financial assistance to the SAF on the other."

◽️ The U.S. representative said "external financial and military support and even political support to the parties remain a driver of the conflict," and that "numerous external actors are providing a tremendous and increasing amount of military support to both warring parties."

◽️ The United Kingdom's representative said fighting was "fueled by armed supplies from within and beyond the region," naming no one.

◽️ France's representative "calls on all states to cease all military, financial or logistical support to the parties."

◽️ Somalia, speaking for the A3 (also DR Congo and Liberia), said it was "deeply concerned by the growing involvement of external actors" and called on "all external actors to comply fully" with Council resolutions.

◽️ Greece's representative condemned attacks "by all parties" and urged "all regional and international actors to use their influence."

◽️ Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, chairing the meeting, said "the external influence in this war is enabling and prolonging this catastrophe," but named no state.

◽️ Latvia's Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs warned that "the flow of weapons, financing and other external support fueling this war must end."

Only Sudan's representative named the UAE directly, saying the RSF was "supported by the United Arab Emirates" and that the sanctions panel "has reached conclusions about the role of the UAE that it is attempting to hide."

Then the UAE took the floor. Its representative, absurdly, called to "end all forms of foreign support to the belligerent parties, without any exception," saying: "Every weapon that enters the Sudan keeps it away from peace and from the protection of civilians." The UAE, despite overwhelming evidence, continues to publicly claim it does not arm or support the RSF.

In 1997, ecologist Debal Deb founded Vrihi, Sanskrit for rice, after resigning from his job and settling in a remote village to start it from scratch.

Today Vrihi has grown into South Asia's largest open access rice seed bank, conserving around 1,400 to 1,500 traditional rice varieties.

🔵 Netaji on Sept 26, 1943 at last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah's tomb in Rangoon said this -

"We Indians, regardless of religious faiths, cherish the memory of Bahadur Shah, not because he was the man who gave the clarion call to his countrymen to fight the enemy from without, but because he was the man under whose flag fought Indians from all provinces, Indians professing different religious faiths, the man under whose sacred flag freedom-loving Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs fought side by side in the war that has been dubbed by English historians as the sepoy mutiny, but which we Indians call the first war of independence.

That spirit of dynamic faith-inspired unity, not listless secular uniformity, was what he wanted to see emulated in the - last war of independence."

Today's Hero of Hatred and his gang, who are running after the Mughals with hammer and tongs, erasing that period from schools and colleges, are also the ones who distribute certificates of nationalism. So, isn't Netaji an anti-national according to them by default?

But keeping the sentiment of south Indian presence, translation into Tamil was provided at all public meetings.

Even the proclamation of the Azad Hind government was read in Hindustani, Tamil, and English.

The RSS and BJP whose foundation slogan is Hindi, Hindu, Hindutva - wasn't it a Dimagi Naxali programme by their IQ parameters?

They encapsulated the motto of the Azad Hind movement.

Those who are deliberately running an official campaign to Sanskritise popular Hindi by excluding Urdu words, for those people, Urdu is an enemy language. Shouldn't they consider Netaji an enemy?

🔵 A rosary of beads and a small copy of Gita were Netaji's forever companions, but with a distinction from today's political buffoons. He never made public display of his regiousity.

Netaji's colleague S. A. Ayer wrote "He never even once spoke his God in public. He lived him."

Isn't this approach deplorable to today's religious clowns who are using their religion for their political purpose?

The accusation that I am antisemitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest. Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people. This merger has real consequences for real people, and for the entire country. Scrutinizing the Ellisons, including Oracle’s business built on data, surveillance technology and government contracts, and the serious threat to editorial freedom and the loss of a livelihood for thousands of families, is fair and necessary. The $111 billion deal would hand one family control over CNN, HBO and Warner Bros., backed in part by foreign money whose influence on editorial decisions has never been fully explained to the public. 

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for serious national security review, and regulators still haven’t given the public a real answer. Until they do, the merger shouldn’t move forward. Now is the time to dive boldly into all these issues, not step back or concede.
