Like the Demiurge of the old Gnostic stories, it believes itself to be the ruler of everything because it cannot see beyond the boundaries of what it has created.

Liberation isn’t about escaping the material world. True liberation is seeing through the false world the ego has built on top of it. The trees aren’t the prison. The body isn’t the prison. Ordinary life isn’t the prison. The prison is the endless commentary telling us what everything means, what we are, what other people are, what should have happened, and what must happen next. When that internal machinery becomes quiet the external world remains, but the Demiurge loses its throne. What’s left is reality before we divide it, name it, judge it, and turn it into something else.
