Minor issues I caught while I was inspecting. Poor paint coverage on the façade. Inappropriate sized cover on ventilation holes. Expansion joint that is unevenly filled and too wide by national standards :) House was marked ready for handover. #building#construction#newhome
If you've built a house before, or manage and inspect properties we'd love to hear from you and get your feedback. You're welcome also to fill in this survey https://t.co/MNvx4cXJnp #startup#indie#product#homebuild#constructionmanager
First post for Checka, we're going to build in public. After feeling extremely disappointed with the whole construction of our first home we've created a small team to help improve the transparency and accountability in the building industry around defects and issues. Thread π§΅
More than that we want Checka to be a visual cataloguing tool that makes it super easy to report and log items or issues with other collaborators and quickly collect feedback, comments and actions plans moving forward.
Checka aims to be an all in one build management app for homeowners and builders to easily manage defects, updates, documents, and milestones in one unified tool so that eveyone stays on the same page.
Being from the software industry I did a quick market scan, and while there are many products for construction companies there is nothing there for the consumer. I got a few friends together that I've built stuff with before and we're starting Checka.
Currently there's close to $100k in defect remediation and all my information, issues and complaints are filed away in email systems. The supervisor that managers our build has another 20 houses to complete. I don't know how he is supposed to keep on top of things.
I found 60-80 defects in my house. I spent hours recording these issues with a note app and creating a spreadsheet. When I sent this to the admin and project manager, I was told they had no system for tracking defects; instead, my emails were passed on to the supervisor.
This is my first house build and it seems like everything is stacked against me. The building company advised me that my house was complete and that I should get my finances in order for the final payment. I visit the house every day, I knew that it wasn't ready.
