Jokes, memes, voice overs that dilute the seriousness of violence and abuse is not healing or education. When we take personal cases of abuse and turn it into a joke we are going backwards. We have normalized violence in our society for so long we don’t even realize our impact.
The Amber Heard + Johnny Depp trial is showing this in real time. Laughing at someone else’s tears, making memes of the walk to the court room, poking jokes at individual testimony is not where we find justice. It is where we create pain by continuing these harmful narratives.
This is a sad reality for so many that experiencing violence and harassment are normal parts of existence.
Well if no one has told you already they are not!
Flare Asks: Did you think harassment was a normal part of existing?

No means no, even when it doesn’t pertain to sex. I was at the bar the other day and this girl asked me three times for a picture and I told her three times nicely that I did not want take one with her. She still preceded to film me against my will..
