Examples of habitats on our farm 🌱 They all play a vital role in supporting food production 🐑🐄 Having 10% habitat on a farm doesn’t mean taking land out of production ❌ Same applies to 🌳 SFS isn’t perfect but please remember this when responding to the consultation 🙏
No surprise that #Drax continues to burn down irreplaceable ancient forests for profits. What’s unbelievable is that the Govt still wants the UK public to pick up the tab for this obscene greenwashing travesty. Another £4bn by 2030? Indefensible. https://t.co/I0Sb8351yR
Planting a hedge & to replace one lost 40yr ago. We are mid-way putting in 600m this winter, which will take us up to about 97% of the hedges which were on our farm 200yr ago.
Hedges & trees & wildlife habitats are part of our farm.
It is food AND nature.
It can be done 🌳🥛
Ponds that sometimes dry out are great for wildlife and are called ‘ephemeral wetlands’… we’ve a heap of them and they are full of frogspawn
Insects love em even in summer when they dry out
Wetlands are critical yet often overlooked ecosystems within our agricultural landscapes, that play a multifaceted role in sustainable farming practices. #wetlands#grazing

💬 “We need to work with our natural system to let nature recover. We can’t continue to do what we've done for the last 30-40 years or we’ll not move forward” - Johnny Blair

Our 4th guiding principle : Increase Habitat Diversity At Every Level
eg, generally, more biodiversity will be supported by:
Mosaics of habitat in close proximity, like below
A more diverse cropping rotation
Grasslands with a wide mix of sward heights
Point of discussion re Welsh hedges - Unlaid #Hedge on left will count towards 10% woodland requirement for @WGRural Sustainable Farming Scheme because >3m tall ….but once laid & <3m it won’t….🤔 for farmers!
Incredible results! 20 years on and our seabird populations are blossoming - sensational work by everyone involved! 👏 @Natures_Voice@nationaltrust@LandmarkTrust@LundyLandmark@BirdGuides

What if access to #fertilizers was more balanced around the world?
A redistribution of #nitrogen#fertilizer across global croplands can help achieve food security within environmental boundaries

Reducing overheads, and your carbon footprint can be achieved by doing the basics – the right breed in the right environment – and doing it really well.
