17. In 1947 we became politically free, but not economically.
Foreigners were out, but a foreign ideology still ruled us: Socialism
PM Nehru (who did some good things, no doubt) told Mr. Tata: "Profit is a dirty word"
Profit, a dirty word in a land that worships Maa Lakshmi?!
Two private detective investigators came to my house to verify a health insurance claim that we made. I am now wondering if health insurance is even worth it. Here's my story.
The important takeaway from the tax correction for the income tax paying middle India is this: even if you are not a vote bank or a street fighter, your demands are heard by both @nsitharaman

Here is the #CapitalGainsTax table that I promised yesterday (as Busybee used to say its all my own work 🙂). This takes into account the clarifications issued by the Finance ministry late yesterday evening. clarifying that the provisions will apply for transfers on or after 23rd July 2024. The more important changes are highlighted in green and orange. Please do let me know if you discover any errors or omissions in the table.
There has been discussion around withdrawal of the indexation benefit. My 2 bits on this is : Most countries have a concessional rate of tax for capital gains. Have not seen an equivalent of indexation in any country. It seems like a typical Indian jugaad. The government seems to have reverted to the global model on this. @feeonlyia #Budget2024 #PersonalFinance
If this budget has taught you anything - it's that you should be very suspicious of locked-in products. You don't know how it will get taxed in the future.
Especially products where you don't get 100% of your money back even after decades!

The Crazy Part? It has only ₹1100 Cr left in the bank but is burning ₹250 Cr a month!

NRIs face 20% TDS on the sale of real estate. That too on the sale value, not the profit! The way out? File form 13 with the Income Tax Dept for lower or no TDS deduction (eg: In case there is a loss). Entirely online process. Story by @Shiprasorout. https://t.co/4oiOVcV9zQ
I have been getting spammed by 'Follow' notifications, despite turning those off
I tried reporting these as spam, and blocking, but they just keep increasing. It is like kill one, and we will hit you with 10 more
The bots are back. I am sure @X are trying hard to block it too.
No, disabling copy-paste on login/password fields does not increase security. In fact, it decreases security (by forcing you to have a password that you can memorize (and in 2024 any password you can memorize is weak))

RBI says all personal loans will, from Oct 2024, need to carry a Key Financial Statement that has the details of the actual interest rate, including all fees/charges of any loan.
* no more hidden fees (can't charge what isn't mentioned)
* digital loans need a look free prepayment period
* colending details, fees of third parties must be disclosed
* you can even ask for receipts for any legal or other charges at actuals
Super new regulation!
(Doesn't apply to credit cards)

Here's an idea:
Instead of paying a college lakhs of rupees for a degree AND then hunting for a job, why not pay an experienced individual for mentorship and then get referred to a job via his/her network.
