ActionAid Association is strengthening people’s participation in local development. In Cheluvadipalya Ward, Bengaluru, Karnataka, community consultations brought together women, children, and senior citizens to prepare a Charter of Demands for the upcoming Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike budget. Similar meetings were held in seven wards, covering 38 slum settlements. At a Government School in Barabanki, ActionAid Association, with support from Aditya Birla Capital Foundation, conducted a Digital Literacy Training programme for 150 adolescent girls. The participants learned basic computer skills, how to search for information online, and how to use MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The training boosted their confidence, strengthened their digital knowledge, and equipped them with essential skills to access information for education and future career opportunities.

ActionAid Association is organising a three-day National Consultation on Tribal Empowerment from February 27 to March 1 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It brings together community leaders, activists, policymakers, and civil society representatives from across the country.
Sandeep Chachra, Executive Director of ActionAid Association, emphasised the urgent need to focus on the deprivations faced by Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) beyond population statistics. He welcomed the Government’s Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) and urged participants to examine its implementation. He called for proactive campaigns by District Magistrates to ensure habitat rights for PVTGs under the Forest Rights Act and targeted schemes that benefit tribal communities.
Debabrata Patra, Associate Director ActionAid Association, highlighted the significance of marking 20 years of the Forest Rights Act and strengthening its implementation, especially for marginalised groups. He emphasised improving tribal governance through effective implementation of the Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas Act (PESA) and provisions related to Sixth Schedule Areas.
Sion Kongari, Associate Director, ActionAid Association, shared the powerful Mundari slogan, “Abua Dishum Abua Raj” — Our Land, Our Rule — calling for renewed commitment to justice, dignity, and true tribal empowerment.
Dr Esther Mariaselvam, Associate Director who leads ActionAid’s work in south India, spoke about the need to have a clear idea about the tribal populations and their access to health, education and livelihood. Based on this knowledge we need to implement in mission-mode ways to ensure access to health, education and livelihood to tribal communities, especially to women and children.
The consultation aims to develop concrete recommendations and collective action to ensure that tribal rights move from policy to practice.

ActionAid Association organised a leadership training for informal construction workers at Shramik Sahayata Kendras in Jaipur, Rajasthan — creating a strong space to learn, share, and grow. Through practical sessions, workers gained clear knowledge of labour laws that protect their wages, safety, and dignity. ActionAid encouraged unity and collective strength, helping participants raise their voices with confidence. The training built awareness, courage, and leadership, enabling workers to demand fair treatment and access their rights and entitlements with dignity.

With guidance from Mr. Pravat Kumar Mohanty from the Rural Self Employment Training Institute., women collective members explored pathways to sustainable markets—from quality and pricing to packaging and branding.
