You actually do want to read this 61 page report, just published this morning. That's how you'll learn, and feel what @verainstitute has done with 10+ years of the Restoring Promise initiative.
With over a million people behind bars, U.S. prisons are broken institutions that dehumanize everyone who enters — including correctional officers. Our latest report highlights innovative correctional practices from across the country that can benefit people behind bars and prison staff. https://t.co/2XGWr7BvKc

Can you imagine taking care of sick people all day, but not having health insurance for yourself?
Solidarity with nurses at Brooklyn Hospital who have been without health insurance for 6 weeks. They have had to delay critical care and procedures.
The hospital needs $ from NYS.
There was a cohort of local broadcast anchors in the NYC media market in the 80s and 90s that felt larger than life. Ernie Anastos (RIP), Sue Simmons, Chuck Scarborough, Warner Wolf, Len Berman, Kaity Tong, Roz Abrams, Diana Williams, Dana Tyler, John Roland, Bill Beutel….If you grew up watching local news in the 80s and 90s, these were giants. They were the Cronkite’s of our local broadcast TV world and there won’t ever be a crew like them that holds our attention and feel as intimate a part of our lives as they once did.
Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.
Vera is proud to welcome the Connecticut Department of Correction as the second partner for Designed for Dignity, a new partnership to transform prison cultures, climates, and spaces. https://t.co/W3NZteTikT
Mayor Mamdani's press conference about this snowstorm and what the city is doing is just, SO GOOD. Not just him, but all of this deputies, all the agency heads. NYC's new Mayorship is the one bright light in politics right now.
Cynics and defeatists share the same story as authoritarians do: that nothing is worth trying, the conclusion is foregone, hope is naïve, and attempts to resist are too small or futile.
Don’t listen to them. Do not give up. Try. A better world is possible. We will win. We must.
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
"It’s enough to break your brain, and that is very much the point. Autocrats aim to scramble reality, plunging the citizenry into a permanent state of anxious confusion." https://t.co/LIx679Pl6l
As the son of an undocumented immigrant (my mom overstayed an au pair visa for years before marrying my dad, a U.S. citizen), it’s deeply personal: Reddit wouldn’t exist if ICE had come for her.
I do think border security matters. But it shouldn’t come at the cost of crushing lives. A sensible amnesty / legalization policy (like what Reagan offered in 1986!!) could strike a better balance:
Path to citizenship for law-abiding, hard-working undocumented immigrants <<after background checks, waiting periods, and meeting clear standards>>.
Order and accountability; those who don’t step forward for the pathway should face enforcement under due process.
This isn’t open borders, it’s smart borders + humane immigration reform.
The guys up at the crack of dawn in the Home Depot parking lot <<looking for work>> or the women hustling their home-made food on the corner are <<exactly>> the men & women we want contributing to this great nation. We shouldn't be rounding them up at gunpoint.
A hill I will die on is comms people should not be doing the jobs of 2-3 people and actually need that 20% unstructured time that Google made famous decades ago.
I talk to too many comms people who are so maxed out in terms of their role, responsibilities and daily deliverables that they don’t have time for the magic of what happens when you can be attuned to the news cycles, vibe out on X and understand the current cultural moment to spot or create opportunities.
