Summer drought outlooks worth noting: Santa Fe County, NM(severely dry): “We recently dug down 6 feet to dig up a pipe. Soil was bone dry all the way down. Animals in search of food, Junipers showing stress and weeds are less prevalent- long before evaporative demand ramps up.”

⛓️ NOAH CRANE, 18, IMPRISONED FOR MARCHING
🚔 18 year old Noah was imprisoned for marching yesterday. Last week he was sent to HMP Wandsworth overnight for marching, and after being released from court he went out to march again. He has now been imprisoned. Noah is refusing to comply with a police and judicial system that protects climate criminals — the politicians and executives issuing new oil and gas.
🧡 Teenagers should not be imprisoned for demanding a future. More updates on Noah's situation coming soon.
🦺 Stand with Noah and step into civil resistance against this genocidal government — https://t.co/bLY1usEHyr
If we had started reducing emissions in 2000 the world would have had a gentle slope downward to limit warming to well-below 2C.
23 years later we face a steep decent to limit warming to 2C, and a near-cliff to achieve 1.5C without substantial net-negative global emissions
What state has been the "driest" in the last 5 years?
NM is probably at or near the top of the list.
The 5-year % of normal precip gives some indication. You also have to go back to Oct 2017 to find NM drought free, longer than any other state.

The world has made real progress in bending down the curve of future emissions.
While we remain far from on track to meet our climate goals, the positive steps we’ve made should reinforce that progress is possible and despair is counterproductive.

"Drought resiliency is an important part of farming, no matter what your water rights are. Being able to make the most out of any water we have and develop drought resiliency is pretty important to me.” Read about these critical soil health projects: https://t.co/nr0tKjzhzN
the planet is being pushed by fossil fuel companies and corrupt governments into a zone which may not support human civilisation https://t.co/FuLAUm63ux
The fossil fuel industry are following the tobacco playbook: arguing smokers knew that smoking was bad for them, hence no liability. Next step: accusing scientists and govt officials of failing to be sufficiently diligent and vocal in protecting the public against their products.
September temperatures are now out from our Berkeley Earth dataset. Looking at all the Septembers back to 1850 helps highlight just how anomalous this month has been: https://t.co/lzh5i5m1Gm
Big news: USGS scientists & partners have confirmed, with 2 new lines of evidence, that human footprints found in White Sands Nat'l Park show that people lived in North America 21-23,000 yrs ago—much earlier than previously thought!

Thanks to all our speakers this morning at the 2023 Drought Summit—experts from different arenas addressed the challenges and goals of drought management today and tomorrow—from climate change to resilient communities to dynamic partnerships.
In mid-March, nearly 80% of Nevada was in drought. Now, it’s less than 25%. I talked to @DroughtGov’s @gfollingstad about drought improvements across the Mountain West and what it means for the region’s water supplies. @KUNRPublicRadio/#MtnWestNews https://t.co/LmRjMpgxMh
Excited to announce the launch of the Journal of Climate Resilience & Climate Justice and its inaugural call for papers. We (the editorial team and the Advisory Board, on which I sit) encourage submissions from scholars and practitioners. 1/2

Here's the clearest reason why @shaylekann and I were talking about #plastic on the most recent @CatalystPod. Plastic volumes doubling every dozen years with no end in sight. Biggest part is single-use packaging, discarded within months.
