In February 2025, the BBC released a report titled "Exposing an Indian pharma firm fuelling West Africa's opioid crisis." This investigation included undercover footage where Vinod Sharma, a managing director at Aveo Pharmaceuticals, was secretly recorded speaking to a journalist posing as an African businessman. In the video, Sharma showcased a dangerous combination of tapentadol and carisoprodol—drugs marketed under names like Tafrodol and TimaKing—admitting they were "very harmful for the health" but justifying it as "business." He discussed shipping these illegal opioids to Ghana for distribution into Nigeria, targeting teenagers who "love this product" for its ability to get them "high." The operation revealed how Aveo was breaking Indian law by exporting unlicensed drugs, contributing to West Africa’s opioid crisis. Is the Indian Government involved?
