They described enduring inhumane conditions and brutal bouts of torture during their journey through the Russian prison system. I do not think there is a magic potion, but it helps to have a society which strives towards freedom, equality and justice.

The basis of it all is a welfare society, a robust education system, a sense of security and a close attachment to nature.

There is no such thing as a perfectly happy society, but providing some building blocks that give us a chance to live a meaningful life, to help others, will nudge us in the right direction during the journey of life.

Israeli officials assess that the commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Gen. Mohammad Pakpour, was likely killed in this morning's strikes in Iran.

In addition, the officials assess that Iran's minister of defense and chief of intelligence were also likely killed.

The assessments have yet to be confirmed by Iran or by the IDF.

Several top Iranian regime and military commanders were targeted in this morning's strikes, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian. However, the results of the strikes currently remain unclear.

In 1812, when today's Romania was still under the control of the 🇹🇷Ottomans, the area of today's Moldova was split off by Istanbul and given to the Russians after the Ottomans lost the Russo-Turkish War. The Romanians under Turkish rule were not consulted.

The inhabitants of Moldova spoke, and still speak, Romanian.

Once Romania broke free from the Ottomans, they took Moldova back in 1920 (taking advantage of the Russian civil war), incorporating it into Romania. But after World War II, the victorious USSR divided Romania just as they divided Germany, creating the Moldovan SSR. During the five decades of Soviet occupation Moscow invented the concept of a "Moldovan language", which is in fact just Romanian with a Moldovan accent, trying to kill any desire for reunification. After independence, Moldova erased the fake language of "Moldovan" from its constitution and changed it to "Romanian".

Though Germany was reunited after the fall of Communism, Romania was not. The reasons are complicated. But Germany 1990 provides precedent. The reunification of Romania would be the fastest and simplest way for Moldova to join the EU and NATO and be protected from Russia.

And, as the East Germany precedent shows, it would be immediate.
