Two Muslim men pulled an elderly couple and their grandson from a burning house in Leeds last Friday.

You probably didn’t hear about it.

Mohsin Qayyum. 22.
Mohammed Yusuf Iqbal. 20.

Both from Bradford.

They drove past the garden. They saw the fire. They ran straight in.

Sheila Robinson, the grandmother who was trapped inside, posted on social media:

"My family and I will be forever grateful to these young men."

Her granddaughter Kayla wrote:

"Drove past the garden, seen it, and ran straight in and made sure everyone was okay without a second thought."

Everyone got out. The house can be replaced. The family is alive.

Every outlet that covered it called them heroes.

They deserved every word.

But not one headline told you they were Muslim men.

We have seen this before.

Two weeks ago, a teacher was stabbed in the neck protecting his pupils from a knife in his Manchester classroom.

Maysum Abdullah. 27. Science teacher.

LBC named him a hero. So did the Independent, the Manchester Evening News, the Mirror, the Sun.

He ran towards the blade.

A hero in every paper. A Muslim man in none of them.

This is the pattern.

When a Muslim name appears in a crime, the faith leads the headline.

When a Muslim name appears in a rescue, it vanishes from the page.

Now look at who that erasure clears the path for.

Bradford, the same district these men come from, is now led by Reform as its largest party.

One of their candidates, Daniel Devaney, topped the poll in his ward after writing on Facebook that Muslims were "pure scum" and that he wanted to "blast [them] off the face of the earth."

He was not deselected. He was not suspended. He was elected.

They are loud about our religion when they want to call it a threat.

They are silent when that same religion sends two young men running into a fire.

The book they want to criticise is the same book that commands us to save a life.

"Whoever saves one life, it is as if he had saved all of mankind."

Qayyum and Iqbal lived that verse on a Friday in Leeds.

Abdullah lived it in a Manchester classroom.

And the headlines recorded the act, but erased the faith that drove it.

When we are the suspect, our religion is the whole story.

When we are the rescuer, it is not worth a line.

Their names are Maysum Abdullah, Mohsin Qayyum, and Mohammed Yusuf Iqbal.

Muslim men.

Say both.

I am honoured to announce that the historic ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ has been electronically signed today between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Memorandum has been signed by honourable Presidents of both the countries and also endorsed by me as the mediator. The signing of this agreement at the highest level of the respective governments demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict. Islamabad MoU shall enter into force with immediate effect and as a first step, Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade.

I offer my heartfelt congratulations and sincere appreciation to the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump whose steadfast commitment to diplomacy and preference for peaceful resolution have once again helped end a conflict that could have led to devastating consequences for the region and beyond. I also commend the dedication and tireless efforts of the United States negotiating team, including J.D. Vance, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, for their invaluable contributions to this achievement.

I express my profound respect and appreciation to His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Islamic Republic of Iran and President Masoud Pezeshkian for their wisdom, foresight and statesmanship in embracing the cause of peace. I also wish to recognize the efforts of the Iranian negotiating team, including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi and Eskandar Momeni, whose patience, perseverance and commitment to constructive engagement were instrumental in bringing this agreement to fruition.

چار سال قبل شاید ہمارا ڈیفالٹ ہونا یقینی ہوچکا تھا جس کا مطلب تھا کہ ملک مکمل طور پر دشمنوں کی پراکسیز کے ہاتھ میں چلا جاۓ چاہے وہ طالبان ہوں چاہے بی ایل اے چاہے مختلف بھیسوں میں چھپی دوسری طاقتیں اور ان کے مقابلے پر کھڑے ہونے والے بس ایک ہی خواہش رکھتے تھے کہ ملک کو بچانا ہے چاہے وہ اسٹیبلشمن�� ہو چاہے نون لیگ چاہے پی پی چاہے متحدہ چاہے مولانا اور چاہے خاص طور پر اے این پی۔ سب نہ صرف متحد تھے بلکہ پرجوش تھے اور بلاخوف و خطر تھے ، آپ تک تو سارا سچ پہنچا ہی نہیں کہ کیا کیا خطرات تھے تاہم سب کو ناکام کردیا گیا اور اس کا سارا سہرا ان تمام عناصر کو جاتا ہے جو متحد تھے ۔ پہلے دو سال اور پھر بعد کے پانچ سال ایک مشترکہ حکمت عملی ہی کے تحت ساتھ چلنے کے عزم کے ساتھ طے کیے گۓ بس مولانا اس لانچ سال میں آدھے ادھر اور آدھے اُدھر رہے مگر باقی سب سو فیصد ڈٹے رہے۔ ابھی پانچ سال میں سے صرف ڈھائ سال گزرے ہیں مگر ان سب اتحادیوں نے کم از کم سوشل میڈیا کی حد تک ایک دوسرے کے گریبان پکڑنا شروع کردیے ہیں جو کہ کم ازکم اُن قوتوں کے لیے اچھی خبر ہے جو ملک کو ڈیفالٹ اور آپ کو کمزور کرنا چاہتے ہیں جس طرح کارکن زبان استعمال کررہے ہیں یہ اُن مخالفین کو طاقت دے رہی ہے جن کے خلاف آپ 2022 میں کھڑے ہوۓ ، یہ اختلافات سر عام کرکے اب یا تو آپ یہ تسلیم کررہے ہیں کہ آپ 2022 میں غلط تھے یا پھر آپ آج غلط ہیں جو ایک دوسرے سے لڑرہے ہیں ۔ اختلاف جمہوریت کا حُسن ہے مگر اگر احترام کے دائرے میں ہو اور براۓ ترقی ہو براۓ تنزلی نہیں ۔ فیصلہ اب کارکنوں کے ہاتھ میں ہے کہ کون سے سلسلے کو جاری رکھنا ہے۔ کوئ انسان فرشتہ نہیں ہوتا مگر ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ دکھ درد میں شریک نہ ہونے والا گالم گلوچ کرنے والا انسان بھی نہیں ہوتا۔
