Kin jolted awake drawing in a sharp deep breath

he sat up breathing rapidly in panic

Nat was standing in the corner of the room
“how did you get in here?!”
Kin asked in a hoarse voice startled

then he slowly began walking toward Kin

each footstep was steady and deliberate
he continued forward until he leaned down their faces separated by nothing more than a single breath

then on the 20th day
Kin stepped out onto the balcony once again … hoping that today the plants next door would finally be watered again
and his wish came true
Nat had returned
the young man next door was sitting in the same chair as always
in his hand was the same brand of cigarette he always smoked
but his face looked exhausted.
Nat had visibly grown more worn out .. dark circles had appeared beneath his narrow eyes making him look like someone who hadn’t rested for several nights
“where have you been?”
Kin asked immediately
Nat paused for a moment before looking up and replying in an even tone
“working”
that was all
no other words followed
Nat smoked his cigarette with his usual calm demeanor before exhaling the smoke
the smoke drifted slowly into the air
it’s okay
Kin understood
Nat must have been truly exhausted.
but deep down for no reason at all a feeling of sadness welled up inside him
Nat’s attitude had returned to the way it used to be
the way it had been before they got to know each other
it felt both distant and cold
as though Nat no longer cared about his existence at all
