The third episode of “Why Do I Pray?” explores the status of prayer as the greatest pillar of Islam after the testimony of faith, and the central pillar that supports its structure. It is the only pillar prescribed five times every day and night. Hajj is required once in a lifetime for those who are able, fasting Ramadan once a year, and zakat annually on wealth subject to the lunar-year requirement. Prayer, however, accompanies the Muslim every day. This honoured status calls us to hold it in reverence, observe it consistently, never neglect it, and strive to be among those devoted to it.
