Welcomed my friend Moshe Klein, founder of the Jewish Diaspora Project, to @Eritrea_UN.

Ahead of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, Moshe brought honey and sweet treats, a thoughtful gesture symbolizing wishes for a sweet and peaceful year ahead.

We also exchanged views on global issues, the work of the @UN, and developments in the #Horn of #Africa. Having visited #Eritrea, Moshe brings a valuable first-hand appreciation of #Eritrea|s perspectives and its unique historical and regional context.

People-to-people engagement and dialogue across cultures and communities can contribute meaningfully to greater understanding and friendship.

Productive discussions with Mr. Hyun Kim, Director of the Global Centre for Climate Mobility and Head of Secretariat of the Rising Nations Institute, on climate mobility, the Rising Nations Initiative and the UN Declaration on Sea-Level Rise.

Exchanged perspectives on the importance of people-centred, community-based resilience and of ensuring that climate action strengthens communities’ capacity to adapt, sustain livelihoods and remain rooted in their communities.

Shared #Eritrea|s experience in building climate resilience through locally anchored approaches and national ownership, highlighting the importance of linking adaptation, development, livelihoods and human dignity.

Climate resilience should not begin with the assumption that people must move; it should begin by asking what we can do to enable communities to remain, adapt and thrive.

Prof. Saleem H. Ali, environmental scientist and UN International Resource Panel member, visited Eritrea as his 176th country. He was struck by Asmara’s Art Deco streets and café culture, Massawa’s layered Red Sea history, and the Sahaba mosque, where he prayed. He also noted the everyday coexistence of Muslims and https://t.co/r7sBQnnjkI an environmental planner, he praised Eritrea’s scarce plastic waste, visible tree-planting even on the arid road to Massawa, and a social fabric of quiet resilience.

After a two-day visit, he described a country that has outlasted colonial and Cold War hegemony and is working, steadily, toward green resolve.

Health professionals in Molqi Sub-zone reported that coordinated community efforts to prevent and treat malaria have yielded positive results.

Nurse Mebrhatu Yemane, head of health services, said confirmed malaria cases in the first half of 2026 declined by 56 percent compared with the same period last year. He attributed the reduction to integrated prevention initiatives.

Nurse Robel Berhane, head of public health, said swampy areas and mosquito breeding sites have been identified and regularly sprayed with insecticide. He added that awareness campaigns led by health workers have strengthened community participation and contributed to the decline in malaria cases.

The National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students in the Southern Region presented the Denden Award to 77 outstanding students, including 34 females, who scored a GPA of 3.0 or above in the 2025/2026 national school-leaving examination. The fifth annual ceremony was held on 8 September in Dekemhare. Officials noted that 84% of the recipients had earlier won the Indomaso Award for strong eighth-grade results and urged them to stay competitive in college.

In related news, Bisha Junior and High School in Barentu recognized 15 high-achieving students, four of whom earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. School and regional officials congratulated the students and their families, stressing that continued effort and patience will be needed as they begin higher education. The school has honored 176 outstanding students since 2023.

#FestivalSeason: Annual Festival of the Eritrean Community in Canada held in Toronto on the weekend.

Opening ceremony presided by Ambassador Sophia Tesfamariam with attendance of Representatives of various organizations; Community Elders; and Religious Leaders.

Various activities held under overarching themes of: further consolidation of the community's cohesiveness and harmony; strengthening of cultural identity; as well as enhancement of greater mobilization and organizational development.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Temesgen Tirfe, underlined crucial role of the Festivals in transferring cherished societal values to future generations.
