@dlongenecker1 why are there similar priest shortages among eastern catholics, anglicans, orthodox etc who can marry? being in the permanent diaconate is in no way comparable to the burdens of the priesthood
@CatholicSmark the problem is that encyclicals before either reacted to something that had already happened with a suggested remedy or warning about something about to happen like Humanae Vitae. This was just to highlight the topic without any real insight.
@JohanRuiterRui1@M_P_Hazell@hf_222222 this whole interview was an attack on the hungarian church and how it was too close to Fidesz. Nemet has been extremely active in some areas of the campaign, ironically criticizing the local church that said nothing, while he speaks as a (vojvodina hungarian) serbian prelate
@mcinthedc and you will fail yes, but you can be reconciled. seeking to be the best you can be is achievable without scruples, but hand waving away everything as non-serious is worse than scruples.
@mcinthedc this is exactly how you end up apostasizing, trying to use current moral "vibes" : is lying really meriting eternal damnation? is disrespecting your parents? this leads you down to "if anything but a vague notion of faith us required of me I judge God to be bad". Just obey.
@KrisPLettuce @MN_Vikings_Pete @TimRiceDC you are so clearly inept at getting any sort of subtlety that I will pain you no longer. I could list from Marx through JFK to all other men many hold as "heroes of the blue collar class" despite the "silver spoon" - but it would be no use as you do not see beyond party labels.
@MN_Vikings_Pete @TimRiceDC "For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country" - Michelle Obama 2008
sure it's the republicans, even though poll after poll shows that while their appreciation drops when not in power, Dems drop wayy lower and recover less.
@SohrabAhmari@josephnollasj and I was exactly responding to this false via media. I'm a conservative not a trad, but there is no semblance of equivalence to be drawn here.
@SohrabAhmari@josephnollasj >change eveything about praxis after a council that changed no doctrine
>why can't ppl stop focusing on these things
ex-trads are the worst
@DrKwasniewski I agree with your points but have very strong fear that this crisis is worse than any you might reference - none of those crises included a heresy (secular "humanism") that was atheistic and culturally this dominant
@mfjlewis I just want to know where we are going as a faithful Catholic. I am bored of any ask for clarification being swept under the rug as some sort of dissent. The pope needs more clarity.
@mfjlewis I also remember the crazy dissenting voices and attacks on pope Benedict after the Regensburg address, the mildest possible rhetoric he could have used.
@mfjlewis I also know you will never consider this, but there is a reason Francis got such a hard reaction while other popes did not. It's not just some random coordinated attack, he was rough & contrarian at times - not just some saintly pope but also a real person.
@mfjlewis I find you do a disservice to all of us by lumping all these together: Vigano is excommunicated, Strickland was (harshly) punished, the rest are in absolute good standing & apart from Mutsaerts & maybe Schneider it is hard to see the "waged war" language.
