seeing as airdrop farmers are the talk of the town, here’s my two cents

airdrops aren’t good
airdrops aren’t bad
airdrops are a tool

a marketing lever, an acquisition funnel, a way to inflate metrics so projects can raise on shinier dashboards

don’t hate me, it’s just the truth

without them, the onchain world would look way quieter and the vanity metrics would be substantially lower as we know them

less users, less txs, less “unique wallets”, less…… everything

but here’s the catch,the carrot that is airdrops as an incentive to boost these metrics brings the wrong crowd sometimes

people expecting millions for writing gm and spamming testnet txs 600 times a day

no value, just noise

mercenary clickers that vanish the second the claim goes live, not quality users who want to spend and use the products for years to come

and yet… i get it, that’s what using people to prop your numbers is

expectations are brutal

even when i’ve gotten airdrops, i’ve caught myself thinking “cool… but could’ve been more, thought I’d get a bag”

it’s never enough

that’s the problem, not the airdrop, but how expectations are set for those choosing to chase the carrot

if projects created clear frameworks and used protocols like @ethos_network and @IOPn_io to social proof those receiving rewards, I think a lot less ugly drama would come of it

most teams bring it on themselves, truly

poor comms, shifting rules, leading people on, gaslighting community, all the fun stuff we see all too often

megaeth handled it perfectly

clear terms, no delusion

they literally tweeted that THERE WILL BE NO TOKENS GIVEN TO THOSE ON TESTNET, DO NOT COME AND FARM

compare that to some testnets where people thought they’d be set for life or making a hundred bands, utter chaos

i’ve even seen people say they quit their jobs to farm testnets (DO NOT DO THIS)

bro… quitting your job to click buttons and pray for tokens? insane behavior, sorry but true

airdrops can be beautiful, but only if the intent’s clear and the expectations are real

anyways, back to airdrop farming I go because that’s part of what I do as it is with 99.9% of ct

don’t understand all the drama on the timeline, often just easier to stick in your own lane and chase carrots alone
