The Warriors confused a lot of people with the Chris Paul trade. They gave up on Jordan Poole and doubled down on Draymond Green, which could end up backfiring.
But here’s the reality: The Warriors must to do anything and everything they can to chase championships. They have to, because they owe it Stephen Curry.
The owners that turned their $400M investment into a franchise now worth over $5.6B- they owe it to Steph.
The new GM who just got this job and must balance winning today and building for tomorrow - he owes it to Steph.
The fans- from OG Oaklanders to the new bloods who started watching basketball in 2015- you all owe it to Steph to support his goals and what he needs to achieve them.
Because none of this exists without Stephen Curry. And nobody has elevated Steph like Draymond Green. Nobody. If you disagree with that, then you may be one of those fans from 2015.
The Warriors dynasty as we know it started when David Lee got hurt in 2014, which put Draymond in the starting lineup. Draymond became the defensive anchor and facilitated an offense that turned Steph into the greatest off-ball threat in the history of the game.
Steph, Draymond and Klay Thompson ending up on the same team at the same time and fitting together so perfectly is not something you take for granted. This trio has the 3rd most playoff wins ever and the most Finals wins in over 35 years.
So yes, maybe trading Poole for CP3 and giving Draymond $100M at 33 years old isn’t “future thinking.” But you have to be truly ungrateful to not give the core that got you here what they want.
Steph Curry? Still a top 5 player.
Chris Paul? Still makes teams better.
Draymond Green?
Worth. Every. Damn. Penny.
