40 Members of the European Parliament from 15 countries are calling for the phased elimination of force-feeding in foie gras production across the EU.
This should be a turning point.
But instead, what we’re seeing - both in the EU and the UK - is political backtracking under industry pressure.
Our investigation revealed that European Commissioners met multiple times with foie gras industry representatives in 2025. Shortly after, the Commission moved forward with rules that continue to accommodate force-feeding - protecting the very system MEPs are now challenging.
At the same time in the UK, the Government is on the verge of quietly abandoning its clear promise to ban foie gras imports.
No public debate or mandate. Just reports of the pledge being traded away in EU-UK negotiations.
Across Europe, decision-makers are listening to industry voices while ignoring public demand and political commitments to end one of the most extreme forms of animal suffering.
Foie gras production is so cruel it’s been banned in the UK for nearly 20 years. Yet imports continue - and now even that modest step forward is at risk.
Governments cannot claim progress on animal protection while simultaneously enabling the very systems they say they oppose.

What looks like a dream vacation hides a cruel nightmare. 🐘💔
In Thailand, elephants are chained, beaten with metal hooks, starved, and tortured until their spirits are broken—all so tourists can take photos and enjoy rides. ⛓️😢 Torn from their mothers as babies, many endure months of brutal “training” inside crushing cages, and nearly half don’t survive. Those who do live in pain, fear, and exhaustion, forced to perform for human amusement. 🌧️ The calm you see is not happiness—it’s surrender. 🙏 By refusing elephant rides and shows, we can stop funding cruelty and choose compassion instead. These intelligent, emotional beings deserve freedom, dignity, and lives without chains. 🕊️💚
@NDHuntSabs This is not a sport, again people doing what they enjoy! This activity comes under animal cruelty. Nothing sporty about it. That defenceless fox fought for life and failed, there are hunting dogs and humans on horse back hot on its tail. That’s not sportsmanship or human 🙏🐾
@less_use8966@domdyer70 That, if true is still beneficial to the animals regards halting the torture. Downfall is they’ll no longer be profiting from studies leaving the animals destitute. 🙏🐾
@Protect_Wldlife Makes me so angry. Where’s there brains. They should be punished severely and make a public apology to the sanctuary and spend there time helping out at a place where they can help others take care of these defenceless animal, learning while they do xx
@AnimalDefenders Wake up Spain, no person of a compassionate mind would want to ever hurt a defenceless animal. Heritage is a pathetic excuse to abuse, mutilate innocent animals. Bull fighters are abusers, it’s not a job just an excuse to inflict harm and pain onto innocent animal. Stop It 🙏🐾
