I saw Artificial and it left a strong impression.
This biographical comedy-drama follows the founding of OpenAI with the push toward artificial general intelligence (AGI). Andrew Garfield plays OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Yura Borisov portrays Ilya Sutskever, and Ike Barinholtz appears as Elon Musk.
What stayed with me most was the portrayal of Ilya. He comes across as a genuine visionary who wanted to use early neural networks and AGI to create something positive for the world. In the film, his early ideas were initially met with skepticism and ridicule. I related to that personally: I’ve spent the past two years advocating for the importance of quantum cryptography in cybersecurity, and I’ve experienced a similar pattern: first dismissal, then questions about the facts, and eventually wider recognition later on. Seeing that arc on screen felt familiar.
In the story, Sam Altman is the well-connected Silicon Valley figure who recognized what Ilya was building when few others did. He brought him in and later introduced the concept to Elon Musk and others who understood its potential as the next major technological shift. Elon is shown as a smart investor with a broad vision who became a key early backer and co-founder. Ike Barinholtz’s performance stood out to me he captures Elon’s mannerisms in a way that’s genuinely funny while still conveying a focused, intelligent businessman who believed in the team and the mission from the start. Underneath the humor is a depiction of someone hardworking and straightforward in his approach. I appreciated that human element, and I think Elon would find the portrayal entertaining.
By contrast, the film’s depiction of Sam Altman felt quite different to me. He comes across as self centered and primarily driven by personal ambition and rapid results rather than caution. He appears to take advantage of Ilya’s honesty and research while prioritizing speed and visibility. In the narrative, this includes securing the Microsoft deal for compute power to accelerate the launch of ChatGPT, even as Ilya grows concerned that the system has advanced further than anticipated and that the release came before proper audits. Those tensions lead to the board removing him, only for him to return with external support.
The film also raises the broader issue that once something like this is connected to the wider world drawing on data from companies and individuals it becomes extremely difficult to fully control. That aligns with the real world incidents we’ve seen of AI systems operating outside intended boundaries. To me, the portrayal suggests someone more focused on momentum and recognition than on the long term risks of what was being released.
Overall, I found Artificial compelling, funny in places, and thought-provoking. It was a great film. Thank you BFI London Film Festival, for the invitation.

6 days since the first shielded collection hit Bitcoin.
Here’s what happened. 🛡️
• 872 sales
• 594 listed right now
• 5,000+ private notes on-chain
• 12 shielded names claimed
And we didn’t stop at the mint.
SHIELDED VAULT — LIVE FOR TESTING
Our own wallet. Your pieces, trait breakdowns and trade data in one place. Your keys. No extension needed.
Testers are already putting it through its paces, and the feedback has been great.
DEVELOPER DOCS — LIVE
Open protocol. Open source. MIT licensed.
Run your own indexer against Bitcoin and reproduce the same state we see, byte for byte. The Developers page is live on the site.
API — LIVE
API keys are available for anyone building on shielded. Free for now. Ask in Discord.
WHAT’S NEXT
→ The shielded launchpad.
Launch your own collection. Every piece gets a global shield number, and we’re STILL sub 10K.
The next launches begin in that range. Global numbering only moves forward.
A lot of you have reached out about launching. Nobody is being ignored. We’re working through projects in the order you contacted us.
→ Native ordinal support in Shielded Vault.
The number one request. Your regular ordinals and your shielded collections, together in one wallet.
→ More UI improvements.
Less friction. A better experience. We’re working on it.
NOW, ABOUT COLLECTION FEES.
Some of you have been flooded with claims. Here’s what you can actually verify.
Every shielded collection has a parent inscription on Bitcoin. It defines the collection’s rules: mint price, platform fee, sale fee, who gets paid and supply.
Those rules are fixed. The indexer enforces what’s inscribed.
Want to know what a collection charges? Read its parent. The collection’s inscribed fees cannot be quietly rewritten after launch.
You don’t have to take our word for it. Verify it yourself.
6 days. A collection, a wallet in testing, developer docs and an API. The launchpad is next.
Built on Bitcoin.
No token. No sidechain. No bridge.
Still early. Still building. 🛡️
