Manchester City always expected Rodri back at the club today and had no intention of agreeing his transfer before that. They wanted the opportunity to sit down with him and both understand his feelings and for Enzo Maresca to outline his own plans for the player.

Furthermore, they had no intention of moving forward with any transfer for Enzo Fernandez this summer regardless of the various briefings. The club had even intimated as much to several of their trusted journalists back in June.

The recent noise has been driven almost entirely by Fernandez’s camp and Chelsea. Manchester City have remained silent. As they always do. Once you understand how tides move, it is easier to plot a course to your destination.
