@mojitoblooms@clarabelts@DQChung Not to mention that your argument is so fucking stupid and not really relevant bc in the last couple decades there has been a huge push to eliminate child marriages and raise the legal minimum age
@mojitoblooms@clarabelts@DQChung Wow. You barely mentioned less than the 15% of 16 yos. Also if you had done your research in all of these states 16yos can’t just walk in and get married.
In Texas (which makes 9% of those 15%) a child can only get married if they are emancipated
@mojitoblooms@clarabelts@DQChung First of all 16 yo are not allowed to vote.
I am arguing that letting 16yo that have yet to receive their civic education vote doesn’t make sense. It shouldn’t be prerequisite but as a fellow citizen I would like that most if not all voters were mature enough & knew basic civics
@garotacomoeu@mc_453@DQChung Then it’s a redundant law that shouldn’t even exist to begin with and if you are happy with it then let it be.
The comments aren’t focusing on how Brazilians should do it, it’s about how we don’t want to do it how you guys do it. Which is perfectly fine
@clarabelts@mojitoblooms@DQChung Did you even read or try to understand? Sophomore is second year of highschool, when the kid is around 15-16 years old. In junior and senior year they have more liberties when it comes to choosing their classes and some end up choosing classes that are more humanity based
@TheDKReturns@DQChung Idek what you are arguing
Are you arguing that 16yos are mentally prepared to be partaking in elections
Or are you just arguing about how literal you took the metaphor
@TheDKReturns@DQChung Yea that specific type of person I am referring is the average 16yo that is very dependent, still learning basic life skills, immature. Whole point of the metaphor
@darryltwt@mojitoblooms@DQChung Our frontal lobe which is a very important part of our brain doesn’t develop fully until mid 20-30s
I am not making a point for the voting age to be increased, I am just adding on to my point that we shouldn’t let 16yos that haven’t fully developed to vote
@darryltwt@mojitoblooms@DQChung Transitioning to your next question.
I obv don’t believe civic knowledge is magically ingrained in your mind. There are grown people that are very ignorant and there is nothing we can do about it, but having 16yo would add more of that demographic of people
@TheDKReturns@DQChung Maybe you are rage baiting but I will explain it to you anyways
Not knowing how to wipe your own ass metaphor is used to describe someone who is completely incompetent, immature, or unable to handle basic life tasks without constant help. In this case our average 16yo
@darryltwt@mojitoblooms@DQChung My bad I missed a n’t
Point still stands that a 16yo would be voting with no civic knowledge.
I also believe that teaching them earlier wouldn’t be the solution bc they would be too immature to understand the civic duties and structure that we have. Hopefully u can understand
@mojitoblooms@DQChung Also
- just bc they can have kids doesn’t mean they should
- most states in the US you can’t marry under 18, in those where you can it’s hard af I believe
- car comparison is just dumb af won’t even respond
