“GoldBod must name the foreign buyers of Ghana’s gold” — Amin Adam

Former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam is demanding that GoldBod disclose the names of companies buying Ghana’s gold, along with the commercial terms governing the transactions.

He says the call for transparency is particularly important amid the reported US$1.7 billion loss under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme in 2025.

While we talk about the GHS 22,000,000,000 loss suffered by GoldBod to the country, there’s a far worse issue raging on that we are not discussing. GoldBod says it buys its gold from artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) companies.

Well, according to the Ghana Chamber of Mines, about 80% of ASMs engage in illegal mining activities. This means GoldBod is buying from galamsey operators. So next time you see a brown river, remember who’s sponsoring it.

Next time you hear about poisoned water, cyanide-infused food items, and degraded forests, remember who is sponsoring them.
May God help us all.

When the NDC was campaigning on the 24-hour economy, they knew a lot of people did not fully understand what the policy meant but as long as the confusion was helping politically, nobody was in a hurry to correct it.

Now the same government is complaining that people misunderstand the policy and that the opposition is spreading misinformation.

You cannot benefit from confusion during an election then suddenly become angry at confusion after winning. Be serious.
