This is a statue of the only man in Troy who saw the trap. He tried to warn everyone, and this is what the gods did to him because of it...

His name was Laocoön, a Trojan priest. When the Greek army vanished and left a giant wooden horse outside the city gates, all of Troy celebrated. Only Laocoön refused to believe it. He warned his people the horse was a trick and, to prove it was hollow, hurled his spear into its side.

In Virgil's telling, he spoke a line that has outlasted almost everything else about Troy: "I fear the Greeks, even when they bring gifts."

He was right. The horse was packed with soldiers, and Troy was hours from destruction.

This sculpture shows what he got for it. Two enormous sea serpents rise out of the sea and coil around him and his young sons, dragging all three down together. The father's whole body is knotted in the struggle, every muscle straining, his face locked in a scream. The gods wanted Troy to fall, and Laocoön was in the way.

The Trojans watched him die in agony and drew exactly the wrong conclusion: they decided the gods were punishing him for attacking a holy gift. So they pulled the horse inside their own walls, and that night, Troy burned...

The statue is called Laocoön and His Sons. It is the work of three Greek sculptors from the island of Rhodes, Agesander, Athenodoros, and Polydorus, and dates to the Hellenistic period, making it well over two thousand years old.

Buried for more than a thousand years, it was dug out of a Roman vineyard in 1506, and Michelangelo rushed across Rome to see it the day it was found.

It has been called the single greatest depiction of human suffering in the history of art, but it endures because of what it is really about: the man who sees the truth, says it out loud, and is destroyed for being right while the crowd watches...

It is one of the oldest patterns there is, and it has never stopped repeating.

Dieselbe Neurochemie, die einst ein Kleinkind vor Raubtieren schützte, bewacht jetzt eine abstrakte Idee vor falschem Denken.

Und jetzt verspricht Elon Musk, dass der zweite Schuh gleich fallen wird. KI-gesteuerte Fülle wird Geld so „kostenlos“ machen wie Sex in den 1970er Jahren. Beide primären „Karotten” der Evolution – Paarung und Ressourcenerwerb – kosten plötzlich fast nichts mehr.

Weinsteins eiskalte Frage lautet: Wenn das Produzieren und Schützen echter Kinder nicht mehr das zentrale organisierende Prinzip des Erwachsenenlebens ist und wenn das Schaffen von Wohlstand nicht mehr für Status, Sicherheit oder das Anziehen eines Partners erforderlich ist, was bleibt dann übrig, um einem menschlichen Leben Richtung, Sinn und Struktur zu geben?

Werden wir zu einer Spezies, die immer größere Drachen erfindet, um sie zu töten, nur um sich lebendig zu fühlen? Oder treiben wir in totale Lustlosigkeit ab?

Scaloni ieri sera, commentando la vittoria in rimonta dell’Argentina sull’Inghilterra, ha espresso un concetto molto simile:

“Questi ragazzi sono cresciuti in un’ambiente dove hanno sempre dovuto affrontare difficoltà e competizione fin da piccoli. Non gli pesa la responsabilità. Nel momento più difficile si sono messi a giocare come fossero bambini di 8 anni perché in questo contesto ci sono cresciuti”

Quello che ho notato nel dibattito nell’arco di questo mondiale è che pare si sia persa di vista l’importanza della capacità di essere marinai nella tempesta, tutto quel sottobosco di micro-contatti, mini-provocazioni che possono minare l’autostima psicofisica dell’avversario e portare la partita dalla tua parte, per molti sono diventate cose “volgari”, eticamente scorrette.

Certo è bellissimo quando tutto va secondo i piani, e si va lisci giocando di fino, ma bisogna anche saper stare a galla nel fango e sta cosa in molti non la concepiscono più, in una visione elitista ai confini del bigotto.

Secondo il Diritto Internazionale non esiste alcuna “Occupazione illegale” da parte di Israele. Lo spiega Natasha Hausdorff, avvocatessa britannica ed esperta di diritto internazionale:

«Esiste una regola fondamentale di diritto internazionale consuetudinario che determina i confini dei nuovi Stati al momento della loro indipendenza. Si chiama uti possidetis juris. Si applica universalmente ovunque non ci sia un accordo contrario. Quindi è la regola di default. E nel caso di Israele nel 1948, ha stabilito che le linee amministrative preesistenti del Mandato britannico che precedevano lo Stato di Israele sono diventate i confini internazionali di Israele quando ha dichiarato l’indipendenza.

Questa è la regola secondo cui le linee amministrative preesistenti diventano le nuove linee, i nuovi confini dello Stato. E la ragione per cui è stata introdotta era promuovere stabilità e certezza e prevenire lotte fratricide.

La Corte Internazionale di Giustizia ha delineato queste giustificazioni quando ha riconosciuto che era diventata consolidata. È stata introdotta nel XIX secolo e applicata in Sud America con il ritiro degli spagnoli. È stata applicata in Asia e Africa, e anche alla dissoluzione delle ex federazioni comuniste.

I confini dell’Ucraina hanno seguito l’uti possidetis juris e questo è un paragone piuttosto critico perché credo che noi tre saremmo d’accordo sul fatto che la Russia è in occupazione della Crimea rispetto all’Ucraina. Perché? Perché la Crimea faceva parte dell’Ucraina secondo la regola dell’uti possidetis juris al momento della formazione dell’Ucraina.

Beh, allo stesso modo, quando Israele è venuto in esistenza, la Cisgiordania, Gerusalemme Est e Gaza ricadevano all’interno di quel territorio delle linee amministrative del Mandato britannico preesistente.

Ora, questo è critico perché immediatamente, in questa guerra di annientamento che ho descritto, la Giordania occupa la Cisgiordania e Gerusalemme Est da Israele ed Egitto occupa Gaza. E quell’occupazione è terminata nel 1967 quando Israele ha recuperato quel territorio. È da quel momento che per molte persone parte l’accusa di occupazione. Il problema è che non si può occupare ciò che è già territorio sovrano proprio.

Konstantin Kisin: Cioè, se l’Ucraina riprendesse la Crimea e la tenesse, nessuno direbbe che è un’occupazione della Crimea.
Natasha Hausdorff: Esattamente. E questo è un parallelo netto.

Ora, ciò che Israele ha fatto nel 1967 è stato applicare pienamente la propria legge, amministrazione e giurisdizione su Gerusalemme Est. Ha riunificato la città, ma non lo ha fatto in Cisgiordania. Invece ha applicato un quadro amministrativo temporaneo.
Perché? Perché, secondo la formula “terra in cambio di pace”, si aspettava di cedere parte della Cisgiordania o della Giudea e Samaria alla Giordania in vista della pace. Ma quando nel 1994 è arrivato finalmente l’accordo di pace con la Giordania, la Giordania non ha voluto avere nulla a che fare con la Cisgiordania. Quindi questo quadro amministrativo temporaneo che Israele ha stabilito nel 1967 è rimasto in vigore fino agli Accordi di Oslo e alla creazione delle aree A, B e C che abbiamo descritto.

L’applicazione di questo termine “occupazione” è un blood libel perché non ha alcuna base nel diritto internazionale. E il prefisso “illegale” è applicato solo a Israele.

Non esiste il concetto di “occupazione illegale” nel diritto internazionale e in tutte le situazioni di vera occupazione contemplate dalle Convenzioni di Ginevra – con il reale trasferimento di popolazioni in Cambogia, Vietnam, Nagorno-Karabakh, Cipro del Nord – in nessuno di questi casi è stata avanzata l’accusa di “occupazione illegale”.

Quindi questo è un esempio di moderno blood libel contro Israele per modellare il dibattito, per modellare la politica e la diplomazia internazionale e per mettere pressione su Israele. E abbiamo visto le conseguenze di questo, purtroppo, in tanti aspetti. È questo che ha portato al 7 ottobre.»
