Thank you for letting us be part of this incredible journey, for all the moments and for giving us the greatest joy of our lives.
You were, you are, and you always will be the greatest.
Rest now, captain. You’ve earned it.
Today has felt so somber since I read his post on IG.
A lot of what I’m about to say may sound silly to those who didn’t live through this era, but this guy was such a huge part of my childhood, that it actually feels like a piece of it is leaving with him.
Many from my generation can relate to me when I say that during some of the hardest moments of my life…Leo was there.
I always looked forward to watching him play every few days and it motivated me to look forward to the next day…to the next game of his that I could watch.
It always put a smile on my face to watch him play.
And the lows alongside him…those felt as strongly as the highs did, but there was always this optimism inside that he would get back up and keep pushing forward, which motivated me to do the same.
Knowing that he won’t be pushing forward is heartbreaking, but we all knew that this time was going to come sooner or later and I’m just grateful that it was much later than most expected.
Messi is probably the closest to a real life superhero that most of us ever experienced, and we will likely never experience anyone like him again.
Words will never be able to express the love and gratitude that many of us have for you.
Thank you for everything, Leo.
Would like to dedicate this tweet to my 15 year old self, who stayed up until the wee hours of the summer morning, birds chirping and all, face planted in the pillow, on the verge of tears, having witnessed Messi sky his penalty vs. Chile.
We made it lil bro. It all worked out.
39.
I’ll never take a single day of watching Lionel Messi play football for granted.
Growing up and witnessing his entire journey has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.
Because there’s a feeling Messi gives you that simply can’t be explained. If you’re not a Messi fan, you’ll never truly understand it.
