As of today, Immutable Play is now open to all games.

@Ubisoft will be the first web2 studio to join.

This will make Immutable the first platform in the world where web2 studios can offer crypto rewards to their players.

Why open to web2?

A little over a year ago, Immutable Play didn’t exist. Since then, we’ve grown to 5.6 million wallets, and onboarded a total of 660 games, representing 70% of the web3 market.

However, the amount of games classed as “web3” is still small.

Last year, more web2 games were launched on Steam every 32 days than have launched on web3 in the last 7 years. The top 5 web2 studios have a combined MAU of over 1.1 billion players, more than every narrative in web3 combined.

In short, web2 is bigger than web3.

There’s more IP for our players to enjoy, more users to bring to our ecosystem and existing games, and more companies to bring to crypto.

Today, we’re starting to bridge them over to web3.

Why now?

Since Immutable Play launched, we’ve seen increasing interest from traditional web2 studios, who’re beginning to recognise the power of web3 incentives as a cheaper, more retentive UA strategy.

These studios spend over $300B every year on UA, and will inevitably shift to the most efficient strategy once it becomes available.

This year, web3 is finally becoming a realistic strategy for them:

- The Epic Games court case means that games can sell NFTs via the appstore without a 30% fee

- The CLARITY Act will exclude certain "video game assets" from being digital commodities

- Stablecoins have emerged as a simple payment infra for non-crypto natives

- The cold start problem is gone. Real scale and tech improvements have allowed us to get extremely good at onboarding users

The landscape has changed so much over the last 12 mths, we’re now in talks with multi-billion dollar studios about how they can launch gaming tokens.

What this means

From today, any web2 studio that meets our quality bar can integrate with Immutable Play.

This will:
- Give our players access to more top tier games
- Bring in more users to the ecosystem and our existing games
- Act as a stepping stone to bring some of the biggest companies in the world to web3 for the first time

Every game that uses Immutable Play is one step closer to adopting Passport, creating NFTs and launching a token.

This is how we “soft onboard” the next 10,000 web2 games - by solving their biggest problem before we talk about tech.

What’s next

It took Steam 5 years to reach 500 games on their platform, which at the time represented only <3% of total PC games globally.

Immutable Play just hit 500 games in 1 year, representing over 70% of the market. In the last 6 months, this number of games has grown another +30%.

We expect to take these growth rates to web2, and onboard every major studio in the world to crypto.

We won’t stop until we do.

As of today, Immutable Play is now open to all games, including those from web2.

The first studio to join will be @Ubisoft.

When we launched Play last year, our goal was to solve the biggest problem for games: growing an audience. Since then, we’ve scaled to +5.6m wallets, and helped dozens of live games find their users.

As we’ve grown, so has the demand from web2 games. These studios spend over $300B a year on pre-launch UA, and seeing how much more efficient and retentive our rewards strategy is, they’ve inevitably wanted to get involved.

Now they can.

From today, all games that meet our quality bar can reward their users through Immutable Play.

This will give our players access to some of the biggest franchises in the world. It will bring their multi-million user bases to our ecosystem, where they'll discover our existing games.

Every game that uses Immutable Play is one step closer to adopting Passport, creating NFTs and launching a token. This is how we “soft onboard” the next 10,000 games from web2.

The first step is Ubisoft, with their 200 million UbiConnect players.

And there is so, so much more to come.
