@museveninch The issue my tweet wishes to address is the current contradiction where, importation taxes of newer cars is punitive as opposed to older ones, yet the government,with the other side of the mouth, is advocating for eco-friendly units.

@mwalimu_dida My two cents, the government should adjust the importation requirement, say to a max of 4 or 5yr old cars. Then reduce the importation taxes to a reasonable figure. That way, Kenyans will import newer, environmetal friendlier cars .

@AMakhambala @mwalimu_dida @coldtusker Granted, VAT is just a single component among many elements of taxation during car importation. If the government was desirous of encouraging newer cars, why not tweak other taxes to lower the final amount?

@AMakhambala @mwalimu_dida @coldtusker You may want to note that you are defining the formula used by KRA. The formula should be guided by that which is dear to a country,in this case, clean environment. You have already bought the car,the issue of its value is immaterial at this point.
