Shuhua recently shared a Chinese proverb with her fans that captures this new philosophy: 知难而退 'knowing when to retreat in the face of difficulty'. She shares that in the past, whenever she encountered adversity, her instinct was just to push forward at all costs:
"I'd keep banging my head against the wall, over and over again," she reveals.
"I'd end up hurting myself and feeling wronged, and it made me feel like I was suffering."
She has now learned to dismantle the expectation that blind endurance was her only path forward; as she puts it:
"It doesn't always have to be one particular way. I don't have to be so stubborn about it."
For our October cover, the star opens up about confidence, maturity, finding freedom in her own space and learning not to let other people's expectations define her. Keep an eye out for the full cover story

The main reason I opened this acc was because of Soyeon's singing voice. I already loved her as a rapper and then I found out she can sing, and I loved her voice. I love all her tones, low, high, raspy, & yes, even her nasal tone. I'm glad she chose to sing more on this album
soyeon really won with this comeback. the RAKs and PAKs are just the cherry on top, but having people genuinely resonate with your music and seeing them sing along to your songs… oh soyeon, you’ve done it once again.
Bae Giseong’s cover of Soyeon’s "I’m gonna TOESA" reached a new peak of #16 on YouTube Korea’s Daily Top Music Videos.
This is kinda rare isn’t it? You don’t see covers of K-pop songs get on this chart often, especially from veteran South Korean singers.
“I'm gonna TOESA” by SOYEON reached a new peak of #1 (+1) on China’s weekly Tencent Music Korean Chart, surpassing aespa Ningning’s solo track. She’s now the first female soloist in history to be #1 on both the main Korean and Chinese charts simultaneously.
Note: G-Dragon is the only other soloist with the same achievement. Neither Karina’s “UP” nor Blackpink’s solo songs ever reached #1 on Tencent Music.
Soyeon has made history as the FIRST 4th gen soloist to achieve a Perfect All-Kill (PAK), securing this record with "I'm gonna TOESA."
She is also the first 4th gen soloist to score a PAK with a self-written song, a feat that may never be seen again in the 4th generation.
