@przidnt254593 More than just the discomfort, the heat is going to radically alter the ecology of the south-SWestern US in the coming decades. Poor water and soil management is going to really exacerbate these issues badly for everyone living there.
@PAstynome It also helps that Iran is much larger, more defensible, and self-sufficient compared to Japan.
You’d need an invasion force on par with the one we assembled for Desert Storm to even have a chance at occupying Iran. We just don’t have that logistical capability anymore.
@weewoono@PAstynome Mainstream American liberalism is also still entrenched in right-wing ideas as evidenced by the Clinton-Obama-Biden admins: pro-war, pro-corporatism, etc.
They even ditched the pro-labor rhetoric post-Occupy wallstreet to bat for immigrant labor programs.
@AtomF11@haylen630@weewoono IMHO a war between Iran and the U.S./Israel was more likely than not inevitable. Neither side was going to back down from their own geopolitical aims despite prior negotiations.
U.S. just happened to have arguably the worst kind of leadership a state could have for a war.
@AtomF11@haylen630@weewoono Losing prestige is arguably a bigger blow to the military than any amount of physical damages imho. A huge part of US power stems from providing security guarantees.
If the U.S. can’t pry the strait away from Iran no one else can.
@snekotron Retard aside, the lesson about not neglecting your agriculture feels very relevant in today’s age where some countries unironically think bulldozing farmland to make more data centers is a good thing.
People can’t eat compute, much like how they can’t eat bronze.
@JucheAffirmer And even then, China heavily benefited from western investments of capital and tech, thanks to neoliberal policies.
As countries become increasingly more insular, opportunities for foreign investment will be much harder to come by for especially poorer countries.
@PAstynome Iran can’t win a head-on war with the US anyway, and it’s not trying to.
Their main strategy is to force the U.S. to either commit further to an increasingly unpopular war or pull out. Against someone neurotic like Trump, it’s the perfect doctrine to counter him with.
@OrlovProvince@PAstynome Much of their strength comes from geography and a willingness to eat casualties as well. Lots of mountains, a vital trade way narrow enough to be within arty range, and a culture that glorifies martyrdom make for one tough nut to crack.
@Majmunspiuni3 Not only did Sinwar get the last laugh everyone keeps getting baited by him even in death to escalate the conflict.
Man unironically set the whole world on fire back in October 7th.
@JucheAffirmer Asia as a whole is speedrunning the socio-economic issues that is befalling all post-industrial nations.
It’s rather unfortunate that the takeaway from this isn’t “this is bad we need to prepare for this too” but rather “haha China sucks.” The propaganda brainrot is real.
@przidnt254593 I’m more curious how other countries will react to this development.
Either they commit to the sinking ship or pull a BoJ and raise their interest rates in a bid to slow down rampant borrowing.
A bankrupt America is going to cripple the global economy either way.
@LavenderGhast Depending on how Beasts of Reincarnation is, I’m wondering if it’s burn-out from being forced to work on the same IP for 3 decades. If so, that’s not something money can address directly.
Might not be a bad idea to take a page from CoD and alternate studios between releases.
@przidnt254593 The weird part about humanoid robots in these roles is that they only exist because you still have humans working there. Should you build a fully automated factory there would be no use-case for these.
A cool tech demo, but a stopgap solution nevertheless.
@JucheAffirmer Midterm chances are already in the dumps and neither side was making any progress on a permanent deal to end the war.
This is only going to end when the global economy grinds to a halt.
@przidnt254593 See the issue though is that the elites themselves don’t have any real wealth that we could seize barring their physical assets.
It’s largely paper money and IOU’s (read: bonds). The actual wealth is either being gambled away by scams or sucked up by hospice care for boomers.
