Over the weekend, GHFMO firefighters deployed to eastern WA as part of the South Puget Strike Team, working the Old Trails & Autumn Lane Fires in Spokane.

These fires have caused significant damage across the Spokane area, and our thoughts remain with everyone affected. Our crews have helped protect multiple homes with zero structure loss in their assigned areas.

Brush Fire Update (July 31): GHFMO crews remain on scene near the Tacoma Narrows Airport completing mop-up operations. Residents nearby may continue to see and smell smoke as crews extinguish remaining hot spots. Updates will be provided if conditions change.

UPDATE (5:45 p.m.): GHFMO crews have the brush fire near the Tacoma Narrows Airport under control and contained. DNR helicopter water drop operations are complete. Firefighters will remain on scene overnight for monitoring, hot spots, and mop-up.

GHFMO crews are currently on scene of a brush fire in the 1200 block of 26th Avenue NW. The fire is burning on a steep cliff bank, creating challenging access for firefighters on the ground.

UPDATE (5:45 p.m.): GHFMO crews have the brush fire near the Tacoma Narrows Airport under control and contained. DNR helicopter water drop operations are complete. Firefighters will remain on scene overnight for monitoring, hot spots, and mop-up.

Update – 7/30/26 at 4:55 p.m. GHFMO crews remain on scene of the brush fire near the Tacoma Narrows Airport. The Washington State DNR helicopter will continue conducting water drops to assist firefighters in areas that are difficult to access on foot along the steep cliffside.

There continues to be no threat to structures at this time. Crews are expected to remain on scene through the night to monitor the fire, extinguish hot spots, and continue mop-up operations.

Update as of 2:31pm: Residents in the area may see DNR helicopters taking water from Lake Sylvia.

At this time, no structures are threatened. Residents in the area may see the DNR helicopter conducting water drops as crews continue suppression efforts.

Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has deployed a helicopter to conduct water drops in areas that are difficult for crews to safely access on foot. Crews remain on scene. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

GHFMO crews responded to a small brush fire near the Tacoma Narrows Airport at approximately 3:48 p.m. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which burned about 100x100 feet. Crews remain on scene conducting overhaul to ensure all hot spots are out.

Crews were dispatched at approximately 1:43 p.m. The fire, which is now out, burned several acres and spread close to a nearby structure. Firefighters stopped the fire's forward progress before it reached the structure.

Crews will monitor for hot spots and conducting overhaul.

Brush Fire on Fox Island Quickly Contained.

GHFMO crews remain on scene in the 900 block of 11th Ave on Fox Island after quickly containing a brush fire.
