Victoria Heiligenthal ran for the University of Wisconsin - Madison Cross Country and Track & Field teams from 2019 to 2024 where she mainly competed in the 1500m. Victoria graduated in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and again in 2024 with a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the UW-Madison. She now works as a Field Test Analyst for Under Armour. In this role, she listens to the needs of athletes and advocates for them when testing apparel and footwear products. She is proud to ensure athletes are given the tools they need to compete at their highest level before these products go on the market.

Sarah and Victoria were in the same class at Wisconsin, quickly building an incredible bond as roommates, best friends and teammates. “Sarah was such a bright light in my life, always bringing a fun and light-hearted energy to any occasion,” says Victoria. “While some moments seemed insignificant then, like studying at a coffee shop or sitting around our apartment talking, they are now such special memories I will cherish forever.”

After Sarah’s passing, mental health advocacy, for others and herself, has become incredibly important to Victoria. “As a junior board member of the Sarah Shulze Foundation, as well as a member of Athletes for Hope, I have aimed to continue to bring awareness to mental health and share Sarah’s story. Although I am no longer a student-athlete, I strive to change the culture of mental health around athletics and to make an impact in any way that I can.”

We are grateful for all that @VHeiligenthal has done and continues to do for student-athlete mental health advocacy. We know Sarah is so proud! We are excited to hear her perspective during Together for Mental Health 2024 – Tools for Everyday.
