October 7, 2023 will forever live in infamy.

I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news. First on social media and then directly from friends and colleagues in Israel. As the atrocities became apparent, the realization that death had become omnipresent rapidly settled in…most people knew someone who had lost a child at the music festival, someone killed in their homes at one of the Kibbutzim or someone taken as a hostage. It was all very personal.

I have been to Israel many times since that savage day and I will forever carry the sadness in my heart and yet, I know that for Israelis it is much worse. The trauma of October 7 will never go away, but the strength, resilience and determination of this nation is remarkable and gives me great hope.

Today my thoughts are with the people of Israel – rest assured that I will never forget.
