Dr Anthony (Tony) Gilbert died at around 4.30 p.m. yesterday. A legendary teacher, creator of the RNCM's Composition Department in the early 1970s and always jumping in to support young people and interesting ideas - and so much more, too.
We shall all miss you dreadfully, Tony.

I played Anthony Gilbert’s Moonfaring when I was an undergrad. We invited him to the performance and he was so generous with his time. I fondly remember him bringing out a box of aboriginal instruments that inspired the piece and talking us through them. He will be sorely missed
