I was eight years old when my dad, a Fort Worth police officer, kissed my two older brothers and me goodbye, on Christmas Eve, and left my mom.

For a year after that my mom would tell us that she needed some alone time and would go in the bedroom, close her door and we knew to leave her alone for about an hour.

She would come back out and continue being our mom as if nothing was wrong. She worked two jobs and always had something on the table, we had clean clothes for school and somehow we never felt that we went without anything.

Now ask me how I feel about a woman running the country and police officers backing Donald Trump.

Come to think about it, don't ask me that.
