The FA Cup 3rd Round kicks off tonight which is pretty disgraceful in my eyes, but we all know it’s for TV.
Back in 1977 when the competition meant something, all 32 3rd Round ties were played on Saturday 8th January and not a live camera in sight!
#FACup
A goals round-up from the late Gerald Sinstadt was one of the best things about MOTD in the 90s.
Here 31 years ago today, Adrian Littlejohn scores for Sheffield Utd, which leads Sinstadt to use a glorious Robin Hood pun.
Nobody did this better. ❤️
The opening two minutes of Match Of The Day, from this day in 1996.
Back when it would show more than 4 matches on a Saturday night, with a top drawer trio of Lynam, Hansen and Brooking guiding us through to bedtime.
Glory days.
28 years ago today.
Villa vs QPR in the Coca-Cola Cup.
Here Tommy Johnson stupidly kicks out at Ray Wilkins, but the 39-year-old takes the sting out of the situation by shaking his hand and telling the ref it’s no big deal.
Lovely stuff from Butch.
TELLY GOLD: Des Lynam, voice like a pair of silk pyjamas, talks through the Premier League table from this week in 1998.
Even if your club’s season was going down the khazi, somehow Des made things seem that little bit better.
It’s 31 years since this Goal of the Month contender from David Hirst in the Steel City derby.
Tony Gubba on the mic. Life of Riley soundtrack. Great combination.
TELLY GOLD: It’s 65 years to the day since Grandstand first appeared on our screens.
So here’s the soundtrack to another blissful Saturday afternoon in front of the box.
Simpler times.
