@SBakerMD Been a fan for years. I feel disappointed now. I know you were a surgeon, but I am a nurse in Ontario fighting this every day. Questioning everything you say now.
Critical Care Paramedics are moving a record 36 #COVID ICU patients a total of 5151 km across the province today.
On the same day we are contacting people who have acquired #COVID at "essential" workplaces such as make-up, cookie and toy factories.
I cannot see a situation where some degree of ICU triage does not happen in Ontario.
Demand will outstrip supply of staffed beds.
In addition to being cruel and unfair to our future patients, this will break the back of healthcare workers.
We tried to warn you.
Cabinet has taken more time to debate what emergency public health measures to implement than doctors will have when forced to decide who lives and who dies once triage becomes our only option.

None of them old enough or important enough to qualify to be vaccinated.
All of them still holding on...or already lost to #COVID in the ICU.
#COVID has taken another patient:
- New Canadian
- Multi-generational home
- Essential worker with high-exposure risk job
- Did not qualify for vaccination at time of infection
If nothing changes, nothing changes.
#COVID has taken my patient.
Let her story become a force for positive change.
Protecting essential workers must be the immediate term priority.

Let your MPP know that protecting those most at risk of getting #COVID is the best way to protect us all.
