It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the passing of the legendary drummer, pianist and composer Jack DeJohnette….

Initially, his death was reported with confusion and lack of verification — rumours circulated, details were uncertain. Now, with confirmation that Jack has indeed left us, the sadness deepens.

Jack’s influence on jazz and beyond cannot be overstated. From his early days in Chicago, to his pivotal work with Miles Davis on albums such as Bitches Brew, to his own groundbreaking ensembles and recordings: he brought colour, depth and intelligence to his craft.

Thank you, Jack — for showing us how drums can sing, how rhythm can voice meaning, how a musician can keep evolving until the end.
