I’m delighted to share an article out today in American Journal of Psychiatry showing that anti-inflammatory treatment can improve symptoms of depression - particularly anhedonia - in a subtype of depressed individuals with an inflammatory phenotype: https://t.co/vBohD7nuo6
Special thanks to the other first-author Annelise Madison on this paper as well as my co-authors Richard Liu Andrew Miller Melis Lydston Emma Lenoël Quang.

This work builds on decades of research by psychoneuroimmunology investigators across the globe, and I am grateful to everyone who ran the clinical trials on which this paper is based. I am particularly thankful to those - many of whom have demanding roles - who shared data.
These insights highlight the potential of targeting inflammatory pathways in preventing and treating mood and anxiety disorders. Much more work to be done in this space.
We found that elevated levels of C-reactive protein was associated with increased risk for depression, anxiety, negative affect, and poorer cognitive performance. Genetic analyses suggest potential causal links between immune signaling and anxiety disorders and episodic memory.
Wanted to share recent paper - https://t.co/hUZoH6wKeh - finding link between inflammation and depression, anxiety, cognition and negative affect using genetic and non-genetic analyses based on 55,000 participants in the Dutch @LifelinesNL cohort.
