Georgian Dream’s decision to suspend EU accession is a betrayal of the Georgian constitution. We condemn excessive force used against Georgians exercising their freedom to protest and have suspended our Strategic Partnership with Georgia.
Do you remember GD's pre-election banners with Ukraine's wartime photos? Guess where this photo has been taken. Yes, it's the centre of Tbilisi, Kala district. Looks like a war to me - by the government and the opposition against their own people. It's their mutual responsibility
Just spoke to President @Zourabichvili_S
The situation following the elections remains concerning.
If Georgia wants to keep a strategic orientation towards the EU, we need concrete actions from the leadership.
Our enlargement report shows the way.
When the ruling party in Georgia claimed that an opposition leader Khazaradze was Armenian as a reason not to vote for him, it went unreported in the Armenian media. However, when President Zurabishvili—who consistently advocates for Armenia and genuinely contributes its European future—mentioned that a scheme, commonly known in Georgia as “Armenian carousels,” had been used widely by Russia in Armenia for years, it sparked controversy and was turned against her.
Also, as someone who represents the Armenian community platform of Georgia that has done the most to combat Armenophobia in Georgia over the past decade, I can assert that “Armenian carousel” is not derogatory language against Armenians. However, remarks by a journalist backed by the ruling pro-Russian party saying to Khazaradze, “You are ashamed of your Armenian origin; that’s why you hide it” and “You rob (as a founder of the TBC Bank) Georgians because you are Armenian” clearly are. You’re on the wrong side of history, folks.
During Viktor Orban's welcoming ceremony in the Georgian gov't administration yard, a Hungarian citizen residing in Georgia @LaszloRobMezes staged a protest 👇
A message of clarification to Georgian friends: When @PM_ViktorOrban arrives in #Tbilisi, he will speak for the Hungarian government, NOT on behalf of the European Union.
For 🇪🇺 position, please refer to @CharlesMichel, @eucopresident & @JosepBorrellF.
For 🇩🇪 position, stay here.
The picture emerging from Georgia is clear - yesterday's election has been stolen by Putin's puppet government in Tbilisi.
I back the people of Georgia as they stand up for their freedom, their rights and their future.
@KKvara77__ The absolute majority of the population is in utter chaos. It needs strong leadership to organize and understand itself. There are no leaders, leave alone strong ones. It has always been this way in Georgia
