the institutionalization of human rights activism (while ofc a worthy recognition of its relevance) produces unreflexive standards that eventually create the "laudable" award-winning activist labor and ofc its twin: the new margins for unrecognized human rights workers.
but a third world audience can also imagine Ms Dolly slipping some gosiengfiao into ruben’s process and that ending is actually in dialogue with a 42yo reflection: in “normal” society, the pageant must go on ;)

TRIANGLE OF SADNESS
TEMPTATION ISLAND
women in a deserted island films. common pattern in these films is how they’re all structured to establish class contradictions and to shift and challenge that fragile social setup when stronger natural forces turn toilet cleaner to captain in a snap.
a glaring observation is how reintegration into “normal” society seems visually unimaginable for the third world woman, as western triangulations can only (literally!) imagine a dark future from her POV.
perhaps we must remind ourselves that in basic english, it's both adjective and verb. yes, "queer" pertains to non-normative identities but it also demands action against the system that made us "non-normative" in the 1st place. hence, we queer them.
a not so new rambling: the way kids throw "queer" around seems so western, much more tied to "gay" & actually devoid of historical, political & cultural resistances that reclaimed the word from the powers that be. to merely play around it as a buzzword only makes it ornamental
to queer = to resist.
perhaps forgetting that capitalism and patriarchy keeps us from our best selves makes it easier for queerness to be coopted and eventually utilized for further marginalization and under our very noses
