Under Sourav Ganguly, the final decision always belonged to Sourav. The loyalty of the team was attached to one leader.

When leadership changes without a proper transition, it creates distortion within the team.

There was a lot of bitterness.

Zaheer Khan didn’t know where he belonged because he was seen as Ganguly’s man.

The same happened with Harbhajan Singh after he publicly supported Sourav.

The players would obviously play under Rahul, but accepting him as their leader on a personal level was always going to take time.

That’s the most sensitive part of any leadership change.

And that’s exactly what happened with the Indian cricket team.”
