I recently moved out of my home of 4 years. But I’m really excited about this new home. I finally got my hands on my own adjustable desk. Here’s to reminding myself that where I am now was once a goal. As always, on to the next one. 💫
I suspect we're approaching a time where if you want to protect creative work, it has to be something that can't be digitized. AI has made is so that creative works speed run through the lifecycle from cool to cliche in a matter of months. This contributes to our cultural stagnation, making it hard for real creators to produce something with meaningful, lasting effects on other real creators. Everything becomes a meme, which is to say meaningless and trite.

📰 In a new article for the @_UNChronicle, @UNUIAS experts @giselleschaft and @jonghwipark explore why Indigenous data sovereignty must be central to AI governance and how Indigenous Peoples should shape, not just be represented in, the AI ecosystem.

It's an honor and privilege to write this article published by UN Chronicle. I bring forth the importance of Indigenous data sovereignty in the age of AI.
“The question has gone beyond how #IndigenousPeoples can be included in AI to how AI can be shaped by Indigenous knowledge and rights.”

This is a type of flood adaptation called flood accommodation - modifications that are rooted in the acceptance of flooding as part of everyday life.
Accommodation is the least studied mode of flood adaptation - compared to retreat/resettlement and defense i.e., flood control.
[OUR AETA BROTHERS AND SISTERS NEED OUR HELP]
Sobrang affected ang Aeta community ng walang tigil na pagbuhos ng ulan.
Tulong-tulong tayo para maka-gather ng:
- 100 packs of 5kg rice (for 100 families)
- ₱55 = 1 kg / ₱275 = 5 kg
Anumang halaga ay malaking tulong na! 🤍
And this is why I love teaching, even if sometimes there are costs like dysphoria
I guess I can consider this my one act of random kindness for today 🥹
Today, I once again gave a lecture on intersectionality to a group of students based in Taiwan. For starters, I boldly used myself as an example cuz y'know, being trans, brown, a foreigner in Japan, etc. But the cost of it was dysphoria because some students perceived me as
feminine based on my physical appearance. I knew what I was signing up for, and I accepted that cost because I wanted to educate them anyway
But after the lecture, a lot of students approached me! And one of them was a guy who casually showed me his phone wallpaper: a trans flag.
Late post, but hooray for a new publication this year, and this time it's a co-edited book that I served as the lead editor! Check it out here: https://t.co/YblGJPJbHN
