Today, my heart is heavy as I remember the Awkuzu SARS horrors in Anambra during @PeterObi’s tenure as Governor.

The Ezu River tragedy of 2013, with dozens of bodies floating lifelessly. This remains one of the most haunting wounds in our national memory.

Investigations collapsed into silence, swallowed by what many saw as a massive cover up.

What continues to break my heart is the role of James Nwafor, accused by countless families of torture, disappearances, and extrajudicial killings, yet retained in a senior security role. It took youth protests for him to be removed. For many, this still raises painful questions about accountability.

Families across Anambra still wait for answers. Their children vanished. Their hopes were buried. Nwafor has never faced trial.

My heart bleeds for the young Nigerians whose lives were cut short. These were sons and daughters of our great nation. We must never forget them. We must continue to demand justice and truth.

No family should carry this kind of pain alone. That is why I am calling on the Inspector‑General of Police @TunjiDisu1, to reopen and investigate this case fully, transparently, and without fear or favour because Nigerians deserves the truth!

OPERATION WHIRL STROKE TROOPS FOIL TERRORIST ATTACK AND RECOVER ARMS AND AMMUNITION AT TOR DONGA YAM MARKET

Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, on Sunday, 28 June 2026, swiftly responded to a distress call at Tor Donga Yam Market in Benue State while conducting fighting and confidence-building patrols.

On arrival, the troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them decisively. During the encounter, two terrorists, identified as Dantaraba and Golozo, were neutralised.

Following the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, one damaged pistol, one pistol magazine, six rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition, nine rounds of 9 mm pistol ammunition, one ATM card, one Moniepoint ATM card amongst other sundry items.

The successful operation ensured the continued safety of traders and residents, allowing socio-economic activities at Tor Donga Yam Market to proceed without disruption or fear of terrorist attacks.

The Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism, resilience and swift response, which prevented what could have resulted in significant civilian casualties and disruption of commercial activities. The cooperation of the Civil Protection Guards was also commended in ridding Benue State of criminality.

Major General Gara also expressed appreciation to members of the public for promptly providing credible information. He urged residents to sustain the cooperation with security agencies, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.

Nigeria has announced the discovery of a major polymetallic mineral province in Kaduna State, along with an estimated 3.3 million metric tonnes of lithium reserves near Abuja and significant rare earth element deposits. This massive, world class discovery will finally shine a spotlight on illegal mining operations across Nigeria.

The NSCDC has identified over 457 illegal mining sites over the course of a 12 month operational push..and this is a conservative estimate. The Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society estimates there are well over 1,000 to 1,700 illegal mining sites mostly in the Northwest and Northcentral region and in Southern pockets of Kogi, Osun and parts of Abia.

These illegal actors target high value minerals such as lithium, lead, zinc, iron ore and barite. There is a clear nexus between illegal mining and banditry in some rural areas, depriving Nigeria of billions of dollars in potential revenue each year.
