That's because they are aware of the company's revenue and operational expense. They have to make sure it aligns with the budget set for company's operations.
Even a small, unbudgeted bump in salary structures can completely wipe out a company's net profit margins.

@afrohighIife It isn't overiding. If the finance team tells the MD of an organization that this is the current expense and net profit of an organization and it cannot sustain the salary increase being requested for. It is now the choice of the MD or senior management to approve it or not.

So, here's a fun fact I just found out. The common supine (lying-on-the-back) position to give birth came to place because a king in France loved watching his wife give birth. However, studies have it that historians dispute it. This is wild though.
